A funny day at golf!
We had agreed that once we relocated and settled, golf would become a more regular part of our leisure time and after almost 6 months, we finally booked a round at one of the several courses in our newfound home.
So I spent the previous day cleaning our clubs, bags and buggies - I had to locate our golf shoes in one of the 40 or so as yet unpacked moving crates still in our garage. Found them ok!
We were certainly a bit rusty on our games but the weather was great, the course was beautiful and we were both in really good humour. The best thing was that teeing off mid-morning and mid-week meant there were no groups hot on our heals, so it was a very relaxed start to our game.
But as we walked off the 3rd green, I felt a lump under my shoe and wondered what I had walked over? I looked down to discover the heel of by rubber-soled shoe had left the upper and rolled under the shoe. As I walked it got progressively worse so off to the Pro Shop I hobbled for a new pair of shoes!! By the time I arrived both soles had left their uppers and I was walking a little like a duck, no soles and the tops swinging wildly around my ankles! Luckily the pro-shop had a shiny new pair in my size in stock. All's well that ends well!!
But the real moral of this story is that we remained true to our commitment and now we've played, we'll be sure to do it regularly going forward. We learned that the costs of full membership were quite sizeable for a couple of hacks but we could join as social members to enjoy other club benefits quite cheaply, and pay our green fees whenever we play. We also learned that twilight green fees during summer months were very attractive, so cost is not an obstacle. So no excuses.....GOTTA DO IT!!
...and remember...have a fabulous retirementLIFE....
