Grey is the new "black"

Look fabulous no matter your age

At a recent gathering, a group of my retired piers were performing on stage. In that moment of observation most notable was the loss of the desire to groom. All of these people have interests in a wide range on activities within the community and their talent was awe-inspiring, but their grooming was dull and screamed "I'm old and I don't care"! As well as enjoying the concert, I found myself giving each of them my own "mental make-over". The first on the list was a good hair cut and colour! Then I gave them great shoes and most importantly a stick of Chanel's "New York Red Lipstick"

The singing was superb but the personal presentation was lacking. Not only did they look old, but they also looked like they didn't care anymore. Why is it that we loose interest in how we look, as we age? I am probably the exception to the rule here, as the daughter of a vain mother we were taught to take the time and care. If I am feeling "glum" the first thing I to do is get my make-up on and head straight to the hairdresser for a new look which includes colour. I have a wonderful hairdresser whom I trust completely and let him do his thing! My last trip gave me a very "blonde-bob" which I love. But rest assured next time, it will be different again.

I thought about the fabulous women who are well into their 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's who still take the time and effort to look their fabulous selves. There is a wonderful book that everyone should get hold of called "Advanced Style" by Ari Seth Cohen, a photographer who went onto the streets of New York to photograph senior women of style. The result was a fabulous book of fabulous women between the ages of 80 and 100 who just looked wonderful. Get hold of the book, I guarantee you will be inspired to go the extra mile with your grooming.
